Everything you need to know about Buntings

Forest School

Buntings is a Forest School

At Buntings, our Forest School approach is all about letting children discover the wonders of the natural world through hands-on outdoor play and learning. Inspired by a Scandinavian tradition, Forest School encourages creativity, teamwork and learning that’s led by the child’s own curiosity.

This kind of play helps little ones build confidence and self-esteem in a fun, relaxed way. Think back: what’s your happiest childhood memory? Was it sitting in front of the TV, or maybe climbing a tree, running on a windy beach or splashing in a babbling brook? We believe those magical outdoor moments help children grow in the best possible way.

Benefits

The benefits

One of the inspiring ideas from the Reggio Emilia approach is that ‘the classroom environment acts as the third teacher’. Here at Buntings, we see our outdoor space as a natural extension of our indoor classroom – full of opportunities to learn, explore and grow.

Forest School gives children the chance to take safe risks in a supportive setting. This kind of adventurous play helps build their confidence, resilience, independence and a real sense of what they’re capable of. Without these challenges, children might miss out on discovering their own drive and ambition.

With our low child-to-adult ratio, every activity is carefully tailored to fit your child’s unique abilities and interests – making learning both safe and exciting.

Benefits

What will they do?

At Buntings, all learning happens through play that’s led by your child’s own interestes and curiosity. There’s no rush and no time limits – children can spend as long as they like exploring an activity. This freedom helps their whole development flourish in a way that’s often harder to do inside a traditional classroom.

We believe it’s really important for children to choose what they want to do and to express themselves creatively. When they have that space, their natural talents can shine bright without feeling held back.

Education

Education at Buntings

When your little one takes their first steps into nursery, they’re also beginning their journey toward independence. At Buntings, our aim is to gently nurture and encourage each child’s independence through fun, engaging and inspiring educational activities. The world is full of exciting possibilities and we want to make sure every child leaves us feeling confident and ready for whatever comes next.

From day one, we take the time to really get to know your child and your family. Making sure your child feels happy, safe and secure is our priority. By building strong, trusting relationships and supporting your child’s personal, social and emotional growth, we help them feel brave enough to explore, make new friends and try new things – all at their own pace.

EYFS Learning

EYFS learning at Buntings

At Buntings, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, which is the Government’s standard for early education. The EYFS focuses on seven important areas of learning:

Your child learns best through play and that’s exactly how we plan our days – combining activities that adults set up with those your child chooses themselves. By following the EYFS and tuning into your child’s interests and developmental stage, we create open-ended, fun learning opportunities that help them grow and thrive in all these key areas.

Jigsaw

In our pre-school room, Mighty Oaks, we follow the Jigsaw PSHE programme, which helps children develop important skills like understanding their emotions, managing their behaviour, making friends and growing spiritually.

Each week, we spend time on a gentle, age-appropriate session that includes a short introduction followed by fun activities. These activities are designed to fit into the week in a flexible way, giving children plenty of opportunities to practise and learn in ways that feel natural and enjoyable.

Parental involvement

We absolutely love watching the children grow and thrive during their time at Buntings and we believe parents play a really important role in that journey, too. That’s why we have an open-door policy – you’re always welcome to pop in, call or email if you want to chat with our team.

We also use Famly – our learning journey app – to stay connected. Using Famly is a great way for you to share special moments or news from home, helping us get to know your child even better.

By working closely together and sharing information, we can really understand each child’s unique needs and family life. Through daily observations, progress updates on Famly, regular newsletters and our parents’ forum each term, we make sure you’re always in the loop about all the exciting things happening at nursery.

Skills

Our goal is to help every child develop the skills and knowledge they need to confidently take their next steps in learning and in life.

We strive to create a welcoming, friendly and rich environment where every child feels safe, cared for and supported so they can thrive.

Opportunities

We believe every child deserves plenty of chances to learn, play and connect with other children and adults in a fun, nurturing space.

Communicate

We encourage children to express themselves in their own unique way, while gently guiding them to share, be kind and behave with respect. Through this, they learn to value and care for the people and world around them.

Our holistic approach

At Buntings, we believe looking after your child means caring for them as a whole – from the nutritious food they eat to the loving people they spend time with. We’re dedicated to creating the best possible environment that supports every area of their learning and development.

Every child is unique, so we plan activities and play experiences that fit their individual needs. And of course, all of this learning happens in a fun, exciting way that’s part of our everyday routine. Most of the time, these are joyful activities that all the children can enjoy together, making learning a happy, shared adventure.
